Flying with small musical instruments

You can bring a small musical instrument into the cabin as long as it weighs up to 8 kg (including its case) and fits within the dimensions of 23 x 40 x 51 cm (including wheels and handles).

Flying with small musical instruments

  • Where will it be stored on the plane?
Small musical instruments go in the overhead bins. If space is tight‚ we might have to place your instrument in the aircraft hold at the last minute. Because of this‚ we highly recommend packing your instrument in a way that gives it the best possible protection.
  • How much does it cost to bring a musical instrument into the cabin?
Your musical instrument takes the place of your cabin bag (meaning you cannot bring both a cabin bag and an instrument for free).
Large musical instruments
Flying with large musical instruments

Musical instruments that exceed the cabin bag size or weight limits (like a cello) must either be stored on an extra seat inside the cabin or checked into the aircraft hold:

Booking an extra seat for your instrument

  • You will need to book an extra seat for your instrument.
  • The cost will be based on the lowest available fare at the time of booking.
  • Maximum dimensions: 150 cm in height (from the floor) or 110 cm (from the seat)‚ and 42 cm in width.
  • Maximum weight: 30 kg.

Checking your instrument into the aircraft hold

You can check your instrument as part of your checked baggage allowance.

If your instrument exceeds your weight allowance‚ you will be charged according to our excess baggage rates.

Additional terms for large musical instruments

  • Do you need to let us know in advance? Yes‚ you must inform us about any large musical instrument at least 7 days before your flight. Please fill out our dedicated musical instrument form and email it to support@tusairways.com.
  • Are there any special packing instructions? You must pack your instrument in a secure‚ hard-shell case.
  • How much does it cost? Your instrument counts as part of your baggage allowance. If its weight or size exceeds your allowance‚ excess baggage fees will apply.
  • What about insurance and liability? We highly recommend taking our additional travel insurance for any instrument checked into the hold. We will only accept your instrument if you sign a "Limited Release Tag" at check-in‚ which releases the airline from liability for any damage.
